Description

These Louis XV Style acanthus leaf gilt bronze sconces are placed on upholstered wooden plaques. The goldtone of the bronze stands out against the dark green, almost black, velvet upholstery. An iteration of Rococo, these sconces provide a lovely interpretation of nature. The arms are done as asymmetrical S-curved acanthus leaves that will give a delicate, feminine element to any wall. The green velvet backdrop can be removed to create the effect of the sconces sprouting from the wall to provide a lovely light source.

Condition

These sconces have been electrified to meet US electrical standards. Each sconce uses two candelabra light bulbs. Each light bulb can use up to a maximum of sixty watts. We recommend using LED lights because they help preserve the antique fixtures longer. Antique sconces have to be adapted to modern houses so please check with your electrician or contractor for additional specifics regarding installation. The wooden backing has a bail at the top that can be used to hang the sconces on the wall like a picture frame. The sconces have piercings on the top and bottom to screw onto the wall as an alternative way to install. Your contractor will know what screws to use depending on the type of wall.

These sconces are mold-made and gilded. Being mold-made, there might be slight imperfections that add to the beauty of the castings. There is patina and minor wear on the gilt that gives them a lovely look of the distant past. The velvet is worn. It can be kept to accentuate the aged look or the fabric replaced for an updated look. Or the sconces can be used without the backing. These sconces have had no repairs and are complete with no missing pieces. We will be happy to provide more close-up images at your request.
