Condition

All the chairs have old repairs. Three out of the six chairs require new caning prior to use. The rest of the caning is 200 years old and brittle and should eventually get recaned. Please don't sit on the chairs until you have made your desired upholstered seat cushion. Putting a seat cushion is recommended because it helps preserve the caning and deters damage. You can also replace the caning altogether with removable slip seats frames by most upholsters. There were signs of woodworm on the seat frames, however, the worms were eradicated early on before major issues developed. Most of the top rails of the backrest have been repaired. Despite the age and repairs, they are sturdy. The chairs have survived more than 200 years of wear and can withstand more. To maintain them in good condition one must consider the following: that the sitter does not rock back and forth in the chairs and knows how to get on and off properly. The chairs can withstand average weight. We will be happy to provide additional close-up images upon request.
