Description

This extraordinary pair of life-size striated salmon pink marble baby giraffe calves have been hand-carved. Both sculptures were diligently carved from a single slab of marble. The salmon pink marble has a lovely color, with white and grey flecks and veins which give the giraffes a more textured look. Giraffe skin patterns were added to the marble throughout for a more realistic effect.

For centuries, giraffes were unknown outside of Africa, and their appearance incited much curiosity. Being the world’s tallest land animal, their long necks provide the advantage of reaching vegetation that other herbivores cannot. That said, their favorite delicacy is the thorny acacia tree, which is exhibited in one of the sculptures, with the calf’s head looking over the tree. These gentle creatures will add a nice element to a solarium, sunroom, greenhouse, playroom, or anywhere a hint of the African grasslands is suitable.

Conditions

The giraffes are hand-carved on a single slab of marble making them unique and one of a kind. The marble is a salmon-pink tone marble having striations of rose-pink, grey, and white. They were hand-sculpted in China. Overall, the pair of baby giraffes are in good condition. The tail of giraffe 2 has been professionally repaired. The repairs are completely unnoticeable. Giraffe 2 has two chips on the left rump. The striations and veining on the marble make them inconspicuous. Please review all images carefully. We will be happy to provide more close-up images upon request.

Due to the weight (1000 lbs. each, 4000 total), they require special handling that consists of logistics, equipment, tools, and experience handling heavy breakable items.

Even though marble is a natural stone, it is not recommended for direct outdoor use. Sunshine, rain, dust, and wind will inevitably affect the surface of marble. To help the stone keep its look, you need to properly care for it and maintain it regularly.
