Description

Circa 1850-1880 English Mahogany Apothecary Box. The Apothecary was the forerunner to a pharmacist, formulating and dispensing medicines to physicians, surgeons, and patients. Apothecaries’ investigation of herbal and chemical ingredients was a precursor to the modern sciences of chemistry and pharmacology. This piece has original mortar and pestle along with scales for weighing the doses etc. The bottles are original and contain some remnants of both medicine and poison. Made out of beautiful mahogany and lined with green velvet. This is a wonderful piece for any curious historian or collector.
