Description

A pair of Mid-Century Italian satinwood veneered end tables, circa 1950s-1960s. Pine construction with satinwood veneer displaying prominent cathedral grain patterns. Two-tier design featuring a cartouche-shaped top and eared (crossetted) corners, with a molded edge and conforming lower shelves. Supported on elegantly tapered square-profile legs. The refined proportions and clean geometric lines exemplify Italian mid-century modern design principles of the period.

The warm, rich grain of the satinwood veneer showcases the quality European craftsmanship typical of this era. These pieces function equally well as bedside tables or living room side tables, offering both practical utility and sophisticated design appeal.

These tables bear original retailer labels from two of Chicago’s most prestigious furniture establishments: Mandel Brothers and Buntman Furniture Shop, both located at the renowned Chicago Furniture Mart at 666 Lake Shore Drive. Mandel Brothers, founded in 1855, was one of Chicago’s premier department stores and a leading importer of fine European furnishings until 1960. Known for their discerning eye and commitment to quality, Mandel Brothers specialized in bringing the finest European craftsmanship to sophisticated American homes. The Chicago Furniture Mart served as the epicenter of Midwest furniture retail, attracting the region’s most affluent clientele.
