Description

On the outside of the serving dish stands three figures, Fu, Lu, and Shou, known as the Star Gods. They are the Gods of the three stars considered essential in Chinese astrology. Fu, who presides over the planet Jupiter, is the embodiment of fortune. Lu, presides over Ursa Major and is the embodiment of prosperity, while Shou, presides over Sirius and embodies longevity. These figures emerged from ancient Chinese folklore and through the years have become iconic figures. They are powerful symbols of good fortune and will attract prosperity, happiness, and wealth to any household. Meanwhile, the inside of the bowl has a peaceful scene of an elderly man crossing a bridge. In Chinese culture, elders are viewed as a source of wisdom and spirituality. It shows the man leaving his humble home, crossing a bridge, towards where a willow tree stands. In China, willow trees are a symbol of immortality and rebirth. It’s a scene of serenity and adds to the theme on the outside of the bowl. Overall these elegant serving dishes would be a great addition to any collection or home.

One of the bowls has a crack that has been crudely repaired. It could likely be cleaned up and made to look more original by a restorer. Thus the pair has been marked down from $1200.00 to $450.00. However, the beauty and history are still immanent. These elegant serving dishes would be a great addition to any collection or home

This pair of serving bowls have been done in the manner of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The rims have a crackled pattern and quick lines that match those of the time. On the bottom is a double circle, a reign mark of the period. Meanwhile, the foot-rim has a beautiful creamy white glaze, revealing its age and authenticity. There are a few tiny unnoticeable chips on the rim and foot-rim of one of the serving bowls. Small porous-like bubbles are in the glaze, due to the way they were fired. One of the bowls has a crack that has been crudely repaired (see image). It could likely be cleaned up and made to look more original by a restorer. Thus the pair has been marked down 65%. The value was appraised with repair in mind. We will be happy to provide more closeups upon request.
