Description

This postmodern three-tier Murano glass shell chandelier was designed and manufactured by the prestigious La Murrina in Murano, Italy, in the 1970s. This striking fixture features cascading, hand-blown Cristallo glass elements—masterfully layered with opaque Lattimo and translucent amber glass gracefully suspended from a solid metal frame.

Utilizing the traditional Sommerso technique, each hand-formed glass shell features a dense, stark-white core of opaque Lattimo milk glass or a fluid, translucent layer of rich amber glass. These bold colored stripes are seamlessly encased within a thick, high-clarity Cristallino border, creating a brilliant interplay of light, rich texture, and warmth.

La Murrina Fornace, established in 1968 on the island of Murano, Italy, was founded by a group of master glassblowers. In 1974, it was acquired by an industrialist family from Milan. This union of expertise enabled La Murrina to seamlessly merge glass artistry with metal craftsmanship, propelling innovation in lighting design.

The fixture is designed to be installed flush with the ceiling, with a fixed height of 34 inches and a diameter of 22 inches. The top of the fixture acts as a canopy (ceiling cover).

Rewired for the USA, it takes ten candelabra-size lights, incandescent or LED.

The top of the fixture acts as a canopy (ceiling cover) that goes up and down to install flush to the ceiling at a set height of 34 inches. 40 lbs.

Artisanal; no part is identical. Two glass shells have hairline fractures, produced during production. Not broken or chipped. A couple of the shells are hallmarked. The metal has wear and scratches from age. Please see all the images, especially the close-ups.
