Description
Late 19th Century Brass Inlaid Rosewood Lap Desk. This Victorian lap desk has multiple internal compartments, including a secret drawer. It comes with two antique glass ink wells and is beautifully made from walnut, featuring brass inlay. Beautiful orange-red leather covers the writing space/compartments. The lap desk is often compared to the writing slope. They were meant to be used on a table or some other hard surface and are often made from fine hardwoods. The large storage space underneath was typically meant for papers, while the individual compartments were designed to hold writing utensils like pens, inkwells, and sealing waxes. This is a beautiful antique that was used in writing love letters.
