Description
This original 1931 lithograph poster depicts Stella Dargis, a French actress know for the films La Merveilleuse Journée (1929) and Le Juif Errant (1926). The actress peeks coyly from behind feathers, smiling in pink lipstick. The poster design is elegantly simple, incorporating bold colors and sleek geometry reflecting the art deco movement.
The artist, Georges Dola (born Edmond Vernier), was a painter, printmaker, and a graphic designer. He exhibited in Paris at the Société des Artistes Français, where he received an honorable mention in 1909. He primarily worked in film and advertising agencies in Paris and was well known for his sheet music covers, operetta posters, and theater posters. He gained further recognition for making portraits of artists and posters for cinema, which was a relatively new and developing industry. Signed J. Dola 1931
