Description
This classic mahogany candlestick table has a nice warm patina with cabriole legs stemming from a tripod base terminating in slipper feet. Candle stands were an evolution from the metal stands of medieval times. Means to support candles were a practical necessity. Eventually, the decorative nature of candle stands became important and they were crafted to blend in with the furniture styles of the times.
The heights were standard reading heights and the lightness of the tables made them easy to move. Any family member could move them from their proper corner to any room. In the evenings, these tables made it possible to continue working or enjoying activities of leisure such as reading or sewing. They could be moved to a bedroom or study for reading; or a drawing-room or parlor for knitting and sewing, with the utmost of ease. This lovely piece could still be used to perform its original function or set in any room to hold a lightweight decorative item.
