Description

Early 19th Century Georgian Pair of Dummy Boards. Pinewood with oil-painted fine details. Charming and scarce pieces, it took the owner a couple of years to find them. There is no agreement as to what the original purpose of the dummy boards was. But these unexpected house guests did have a reputation for being pleasant, polite, and quiet! Nonetheless, they were placed in halls, corridors, by fireplaces, as mere decorative articles or to scare away burglars near doors and windows. They make fun conversation pieces.

Condition

Both have small separation in the wood which is normal and happens over time. Minor scratches which is normal for its age. Some varnish stains on the back of the boards. No missing parts or chips. Will require professionally packaging by white glove couriers to minimize damage. The back easel does not collapse. Like unframed oil paintings on board, the painting can easily get chipped and peel if scraped by brute force.
