Description
A magnificent late 19th‑century French giltwood and gesso mirror in the Louis XIV Revival style, circa 1870–1890, of nearly eight‑foot height. The richly carved frame features a pierced crest with scrolling acanthus and foliate motifs enclosing a central cartouche, above a divided mirror plate bordered by rope‑carved detailing and elaborate voluted corners.
The mirror’s monumental scale and balanced symmetry capture the grandeur and refinement of Second Empire and early Third Republic French design, echoing the decorative language of Versailles and the royal ateliers of Paris.
A commanding and architectural statement piece, it embodies the opulent spirit of the Baroque revival and lends presence to an entrance hall, salon, or grand interior.
