Description
This French Empire-style chandelier from circa 1930 is crafted from brass and crystal. Featuring the traditional ‘tent and basket’ design, it has a domed lower body adorned with cascading chains of faceted crystal beads. The crown molding, designed to resemble a frond, supports additional crystal chains. A thick central brass band, known as the meridian, is adorned with bronze appliques of Marianne rose bouquet motifs. This band defines the bottom of the canopy and leads to the chandelier’s domed belly, further decorated with crystal droplets and culminating in a round-faceted crystal diamond stud. The motifs on the meridian pay homage to Marianne, a powerful symbol of the French Republic representing liberty, equality, and fraternity.
