This type of chandelier is identified and named after the 18th century Empress of Austria. In 1746, a newly designed lyre-shaped chandelier was delivered to her palace. After seeing the icy and glittering chandelier, she fell in love with the newly designed Bohemian crystal chandeliers and had her entire palace filled with them. Since then, this type of chandelier bears her name. This early twentieth century Maria Theresa style crystal chandelier has those characteristics. It has a stunning birdcage gold painted brass skeleton encased in a crystal frame decked with strands of faceted cut crystal. The motif continues with teardrop crystal prisms and scalloped crystal bobeches. The bountiful amount of crystals parts and prisms capture and reflect the light of candle bulbs beautifully. This elegant chandelier is perfect for a traditional home, contemporary city condo, or a modern loft. Wherever it resides, it will surely add the same grandeur and elegance that the Empress herself demanded!
