Description

Pair of late 19th Century French Louis XVI style gilt bronze twist rope sconces. These sconces were wonderfully made in a mold to resemble a twisted rope/lasso. Originally made for use with candles and not hollow, they have been inconspicuously electrified with outside wiring. This pretty pair would look nice in a library, office, bedroom, or foyer flanking a mirror or artwork.

Each sconce weighs approximately 5 lbs.

Condition

These sconces were mold made so there might be some slight imperfections that add to the beauty of the sconces. These sconces have had no repairs and are complete with no missing pieces. There are slight scratches due to the antiqueness, but overall, in good condition.

Originally made for candles, they have been electrified on the outside. However, the electrical wires have been painted to match the color of the gilt bronze and meet US electrical standards. Each sconce uses two candelabra light bulbs. Each light bulb can use up to max of 60 watts. We recommend using LED lights because they help preserve the antique fixtures longer. Antique sconces have to be adapted to modern houses so please check with your electrician or contractor for additional specifics regarding installation. Your contractor will know what screws to use depending on the type of wall.

If you wish to use them with candles, you can just remove the electrical wiring. We will be happy to provide more closeup images at your request.
