Description
This Circa 1890 Italian Silver and Gold Gilt Cherry Carved Grotto Chair is reminiscent of the charm of English Gardens during the Edwardian and Victorian periods. English gardens presented an idealized view of nature with its ponds and rolling lawns set against groves of trees and recreations of classical ornamentation and were considered a must for the English country home. This grotto chair has a carved shell formed seat and carved sea creature motif adorning the legs. The original silver and gold leaf have wear and patina from age creating an unreplicable finish. The seat is small and may work more for decorative purposes rather than daily use.
