Description

You will feel gorgeous as you get ready for the day while gazing into this Circa 1900 French Empire Style Mahogany Dressing Table. It has the classic much-loved decorative motifs of the French Empire Period. Brass appliques and mounts of Hermes, swan necks, palmettes and torches adorn the solid mahogany frame. The presentation of the piece is completed with brass pulls in the shape of laurel wreaths and paw feet. Functionally, it has one large drawer and two smaller drawers on each sides for accessories or makeup. The mirror is a cheval mirror that can be tilted up or down. It has two, built in, two-arm sconces on each side to illuminate at nighttime.

A signature can be found underneath, on the edge, where the mirror is screwed on. Although it is solid mahogany, the top and sides have a lovely crotch mahogany veneer that captures the lovely book-match pattern generated when the first primary branches evolve from the main tree trunk.

This dressing table was also seen in the Chicago Fire TV show, season 8 episode 19 of 2020.

Condition

The sconces have been rewired to meet US electrical code. Each sconce on this vanity takes two candelabra light bulbs. Each light bulb can use up to max of 60 watts. We recommend to using LED lights because they help preserve antique lighting longer. The electrical cord is long and has a switch to turn the sconces on and off. If real candles are preferred, the electrical wires can be easily removed. The frame is made from solid mahogany and has crotch veneer on the top and sides added to display the lovely book-match pattern generated by the character of the grain. There are some nicks, scratches, and dents. The wood has a lovely tone and rich patina due to the antiqueness. It has no repairs and is complete. The cheval mirror is original and has no cracks or chips. All the brass pulls, and details are complete and original to the piece. A signature can be found underneath, on the edge, where the mirror is screwed on, however, we could not make it out. We will be happy to provide more closeup images upon request.
