It originally had varnish but has been refurbished with a reddish stain. One chair has wear to the caning but can still be used. For daily use, we recommend the one chair gets re-caned. Structure is good. Some chairs have some scratches. No repairs done to the legs, arms or back. Happy to provide more closeup images.
