Description
A pair of Circa 1900 French Louis XVI Style 24K Gilt armchairs. This majestic pair of chairs has a beautiful green floral silk embroidered fabric with a luminous gold gilt wooden frame. Each chair has a jasperware medallion crowing the top of the backs. Both medallions depict Euterpe. Euterpe is the Greek muse that presides over music. In late Classical times, she was named muse of lyric poetry. In one medallion, she is holding a lyre while engaging with cupid. In the other medallion, she is dancing with cupid as a boy plays two flutes. The artistry continues with lovely hand-carved acanthus leaves and flowers adorning the frame. The spiral legs have an elegant twisted fluted design terminating in arrow feet. These poetic chairs are comfortable and inviting. Each chair weighs approximately 50 lbs.
