Oil-Painted Pair of Dummy Boards
Early 19th Century Georgian Pair of Dummy Boards. Pinewood with oil-painted fine details. Truly charming and scarce pieces, it took the owner a couple of years to find them. There is no agreement as to what the original purpose of the dummy boards was. But, these unexpected house guests did have a reputation for being pleasant, polite and quiet! Nonetheless, they were placed in halls, corridors, by fireplaces, as mere decorative articles or to scare away burglars near doors and windows.
