Oil on Canvas by Henry H. Parker
A very handsome landscape by the British artist Henry H. Parker (1858-1930). Parker specialized in painting landscapes, particularly harvesting scenes and river subjects. From 1923, Parker exhibited in the United States, especially Chicago, were he was unable to meet the demands for his paintings. His paintings were also popular with Canadians and were hung in all the leading clubs throughout Canada and the States. Parker`s works have sold at auction in the $25K range.
He studied art at St. Martins School of Art and later at one of the Royal Academy schools.
His works shows not only the influence of the impressionist school, but also owe something in technique and subject matter to his well-known contemporary Benjamin Williams Leader. He also worked for a time as an illustrator for the Illustrated London News.
